Nota d'usoNell'inglese moderno il sostantivo vocabulary significa “vocabolario” nel senso di lessico, o talvolta anche “elenco di parole”, ma non indica il volume: You need to increase your English vocabulary, devi ampliare il tuo lessico in inglese; There is a vocabulary at the end of the book, c'è un elenco di parole alla fine del libro. Il sostantivo dictionary significa invece “vocabolario” (o “dizionario”) come volume: I have to look up this word in the dictionary, devo guardare questa parola nel vocabolario. -

Nota d'usoAssassin e to assassinate significano “assassino” e “assassinare”, però nell'inglese moderno si usano solo in riferimento all'assassinio di un personaggio di un certo rilievo per motivi politici o religiosi: Benazir Bhutto has been assassinated, Benazir Bhutto è stata assassinata; the attempted assassination of the Pope, il tentato assassinio del Papa.
